Here is our entry into the 2009 WWFF. The short took first place at the festival.

12:21 - The Palindrome Explained

One of the original reasons that encouraged us to create a film that you could watch forwards and backwards was the fact that you could add a parameter to the QuickTime embed code that made the player show the clip back and forth. The parameter - loop="palindrome" - will play the entire video forwards, then start playing it backwards when it reaches the end. Here, finally, is 12:21, in the QuickTime player with the palindrome parameter that started it all:

Making 3D out of 2D

Here is an example of cutting apart a old still photograph by hand (Photoshop lasso tool) and manipulating the layers in Final Cut Pro to create a 3D feel to the image. I created this example back in 2004. Today, in 2009, Photoshop provides an automatic filter to do this and it is a style used in many documentaries.

We got the review back from the DC Film Fest... and it was pretty much as expected. Actually, it was a little generous. Higher marks in writing, direction, originality, technical competency and editing... but not much higher. : )
